Personagem da série de videogames Fatal Fury, Mai Shiranui fez sua estreia em Fatal Fury 2, como a última herdeira ninja de Shiranui, e namorada de Andy Bogard. Ela também aparece em quase todos os jogos da série The King of Fighters, sendo uma das fundadoras do Women Fighters Team, junto com King e Yuri Sakazaki. Mai é uma garota muito alegre e temperamental. Seu estilo se assemelha ao ninjutsu normal com movimentos mais graciosos e majestosos, algo em referência à dança tradicional japonesa. Ela também usa leques de papel como armas, integrando-os em sua técnica de combate e utilizando-os para realizar diversas combinações e movimentos. Suas roupas, especificamente, a borla em seu traje ninja, também são usadas para atacar o oponente. Ela também é excepcional no combate corpo a corpo, usando diferentes arremessos e técnicas para ganhar vantagem. Sua roupa principal é um vestido kunoichi vermelho e branco (um traje tradicional de sua família), com borlas vermelhas nas costas que são presas em seu obi em volta da cintura. Ela tem cordas brancas circulares presas em torno de seus ombros, com tabis vermelhos e pretos para calçados. Mai também é geralmente vista empunhando um tradicional Kach¿ Sen branco, ou leque de borboleta, como sua arma principal.
